Two weeks from today

That's right. We are just two weeks away from Jake's Music Festival 2012. This year's event starts at 4:00 p.m. on April 14th at Wealthy Theatre. The show runs until 11:00 p.m.-ish. There are very few places where you can see this many styles of music playing almost continuously on one stage. And since this is a free show (donations cheerfully accepted) you can come in for one or two bands or stay the night. Or come early, pop out for some dinner, and come back for more music later. It's going to be a great night so make sure you are there.
The Fainting Generals performing at JMF 11. They will be back again this year.
We also have one change to announce. Ritsu will not be performing this year. We have added the Nick Stevenson Band. Nick is very excited about playing at Jake's Music Festival and we look forward to having him. For the full schedule click on the 2012 Show Line-up tab above.

Additions to the line-up

Jake's Music Festival 2012 is only 28 days away. The excitement is building for one of the most eclectic musical shows in West Michigan. This year's performances will include rockabilly, Celtic, experimental violin, rock and roll, Creole, singer/songwriter, and jazz. Quite literally, something for everyone.

Our opening act has traditionally been a family or youth act. It's a great way for young performers to play at one of the best music venues in the area. In the past we've had the School of Rock kids and Irish family band Five Leaf Clover (with their 6 year old whiz kid drummer) in that slot. This year we are pleased to open the show at 4:00 with the Cedar Spring High School Jazz Band. They promise to kick off the festivities with a bang.

We have also added the band Flashing Blue Lights. These guys are performing a lot right now and getting very popular. According to their Facebook page the band exhibits "strong songwriting from the classic school of British rock and a hint of Americana infused alt-country." In addition we've added two soloists; the ever enjoyable Celtic Kilroy Cabaret and singer/guitarist Michael Stephen Tryc.

Unfortunately we've also had a couple of bands drop out because of personal reasons. Igby Iris and the Daisy Cox Band will not be in the show this year, but look for them in a future Jake's Music Festival.

Return of a favorite

Karisa Wilson has been one of our featured performers since we started holding the festival at Wealthy Theatre. She's back again this year along with Lynn Thompson. He normally fronts the Lynn Thompson Band but on April 14th he'll be playing an acoustic set with Karisa. That alone would be worth the price of admission. But hey, admission is FREE. Donations are cheerfully accepted for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Check out the tabs above to see photos of the 2012 performers and the full line-up.

Silent Auction and Quilt Raffle

Another part of the entertainment happening at Jake's Music Festival is a silent auction. We annually have wonderful items from many local companies. This year's auction includes an overnight stay at the JW Marriot, a gift certificate to John Russo's Wine Warehouse and the beautiful quilt you see above. The quilt, created by Lowell artisan Barb Dey Porter, will be raffled off at the music festival. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance and at the concert.

The large quilt measures 65" x 68" and is a reproduction of a famous quilt called "Trip Around the World." Information about the quilt from the artist: Quilt reproductions are from the Michigan State University Museum. Travel back in time to the 1930s with this colorful mix of prints, solids and novelties based on the MSU Museum "Trip Around the World" Quilt made by Lauar May Clarke in 1932.
